Birthday Gift Alert!

Okay, there is cool – and then there is COOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!

Linky

I’m not sure who would love this more, my son – or me.

I had to share these two sites…

Wow, these two sites made me laugh. Yes, they are a little NSFW – but very good. Very, very good.

I’ll be adding these to the links section, they are funny as hell.

Friday

Another Friday almost in the books here. Had a great lunch with my friend Nathan today. I’m consider myself pretty lucky to know people like Nathan. In fact, I think there are a large number of people that I generally “associate” with that I am lucky to know. I get to talk to some more than others, but I think I’ve been pretty good about knowing people who are quality individuals. Of course there are exceptions to the rules, but for the most part I really am lucky to know all these great folks. I guess I really had a chance to think about that today after lunch. I wish I could post all the names, but they all know who they are – even if I don’t talk to them everyday. It’s a big list. And I think that’s one of the many positive things in my life – knowing all those good people. Everyone should be so fortunate.

I’m Batman

Okay, so I went to go see the new Batman movie (saw it once with the wife and then I took my son after I made sure it was something that we would be willing to let him see). I was particularly struck by how well done the movie was. There were only subtle moments of humor, but they were very well placed and perfectly timed. There were moments for the fan and non-fan alike. Those with knowledge of Batman and some of the other stories (aside from the lame-ass campy movies of the 80’s) will reap serious rewards as there are several criminals in this movie that we will likely see later.

But all-in-all, it was a fabulous movie, with VERY good acting and a great story. Well worth going to see. I’d recommend it to anyone and to kids older than 11-12.

COOL!

Okay, this is probably one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. Very, VERY funny idea. Check it out for yourself…

Boxing this weekend

Well, this was a big weekend in boxing. Kostya Tszyu who used to hold one sort of a championship belt or another for the past ten years now sits with no belt and no trainer. He let his trainer go (they had been together since 1992) after failing to answer the bell in the 12th round of the past weekends match. I saw the match and I didn’t hear Kostya complaining loudly then that his trainer quit the fight. But, in the world of boxing – where nothing is ever as easy as yes or no – the old-timer Tszyu is now blaming his trainer for quitting on him and says he would have never quit of his own free will. Of course, the fact that all of this flies in the face of what he said in the immediate post-fight interviews, is not what you should be thinking about here. Ugh. What a load of crap. KT needs to get his head out of his ass and decide if this is REALLY what he wants to do anymore. He got a WHIPPING at the hands of Ricky Hatton who pressured Tszyu the entire fight. And if you saw any of those post-fight comments from him, you saw that Tszyu was obviously suffering from a mild concussion. His speech was slow and slurred and his thought processes hindered by the brutal 11 rounds of power punches that were delivered to him in that ring.

I hope he retires. He was a great fighter, who had his time. Just like Roy Jones Jr. Some time, some place – someone will beat you. Time removes skills, speed and determination from all of those who would be a champion in the sport of boxing. Some people just need to learn that.

Trying new site design

So, any comments about this? I kinda dig it.

Anyways, I’m not 100% certain I actually like this, but I’ll experiment with it a little more. There are several other things I’d like to get done. Not the least of which is a nice logo. Perhaps I shall ask the wife for a little help?

Question: Have you ever considered moving far away from where you are now? For example, 8-10 hours a way? I’d say that would be considered a substantial distance. It’s not west coast from the east coast – but it’s far. I moved here to Nashville from El Paso – and that was quite a move. Far more than 8-10 hours. But the whole process of uprooting the family, changing schools, being in a completely foreign place – it’s all a little intimidating. And a little appealing actually. Just one of those things to ponder. Maybe life needs a big shake up every once in a while, you know?

One other thing…

Last weekend I completed one of my “guy tasks for life”. As I learned how to weld from my uncle. He taught me how to stick weld and I must say that it was more difficult than I had imagined, but once I got the hang of it – it amazed me how it was like using a soldering iron. So, scratch off “learning to weld” from my list. Now to climb Everest. Oh wait – I think I already did that too! :)

Okay, one MORE thing…

While we were up in Springfield we talked to my grandfather about taking some clippings (or the whole thing, actually) from a rose bush that my grandmothers (who passed away about four years ago) rose bush. It was looking bad and we were concerned it was going to die. Well, after being out there and trimming away the dead stuff – the bush looked pretty good. So we took clippings, cleaned it up and watered it. We’re hoping we can get a clipping to root. The reason for all the fuss? Well, this was my grandmothers mothers rose bush. So, it’s got some significance to the family and me personally.

Update

Well, work continues to stay busy. Last week we upgraded a pair of crappy 2.4Ghz antannae that ran the network between our two Lavernge-based distribution facilities with a pair of 5.8Ghz antannae that will enable us to move from 3MB to about 90MB of bandwidth between the two sites. This took us all of last Tuesday, but was very successful. We had a guy come up from Florida to help us out with the wiring and radio installs and it all went (rather slowly mind you) without a hitch. So the months of whining Paul has endured from the distribution facilities should now be at an end.

My big project for next week is the installation of four Cisco CSS boxes that we will be using for internal payment processing. Should be exciting considering I’ve never configured one of them before.

Still trying to find my nitch there, but it’s coming along alright. Got my first paycheck and it was as bad as I was expecting. We’re okay though. Taking a 15% cut in pay to work somewhere is a bit of a challenge for us, financially – but the other benefits are far outweighing the money. This weekend marks my third three-day weekend in a row, and let me tell you – that’s pretty cool. My kids love it, my wife loves it and I can’t believe I’m this lucky. So, I’m willing to take some of the bad with the good.
